Hi everyone!!

Im new on here and hope someone can help me with a issue i have. Im fairly new to AutoCad 2010 but have used 2008 for some time.

I undersand 2010 now lets you import PDF's and allows you to snap to them... have been drag and dropping them in and snapping on them no prob which is so helpful to me however it so slows when working on them.... ie scrolling round the model space / drawing lines on them etc... its doing my head in.... im not sure if its cos of the spec of my pc or not but working in normal dwg's its very quick!!

my pc spec is....

i have vista business (i know)
intel core 2 quad Q9400 @ 2.66ghz
3gb ram

any help would bne grately appreciated.... thanks in advance

It may not be Autodesk's fault. It mostly depends on the content of the
PDF, which can often be a bloated mess. Not all PDF creators are equal.
For example, while one driver may write out text as a lean text element,
another may (especially if its width factor is changed) write out each
letter as a large collection of filled triangles. Take for example this
innocent looking letter "S", which contained 471 objects!

AutoCAD doesn't know it's a letter S and has to treat it with as much
importance as any other part of your file. This users file (PDF Size
1.2mb) contained nearly 325,000 objects that obviously was bogging down
AutoCAD. You can turn off the PDFOSNAP system variable to improve snaps.

So while the jury is still out on PdfUnderlay, it's a fact that having a
good import utility (like http://www.dotsoft.com/pdfimport.htm) can make
a world of difference by being able to bring them in and clean them up!

Good Morning.

I noticed the PDF underlay is very slow as well. I did not matter for me what the complexity of the underlay was, it was just slow.
Pan and Zoom was where I saw the lag.

I've had much better luck with a PDF to dwg converter.

You may want to try out the demo and see if it would work for you as well.

I still use the underlay if the pdf doesn't convert, but like Adam, I find it very slow.

Best of luck.

Sounds like it made a raster from the vectors in the original.

You may try http://www.autodwg.com/pdf-to-dwg-converter/ if it is a raster PDF. But for raster to vector conversion, you need a high-res PDF to get clear enough drawing output.
