PDFs Texts & Dots

Well here's the puzzle, on reproducing DWG to PDF,  there are some texts thru-out the drawing that do not spell out, in place of the text there is a line of  'DOTS'  .......

Why does this occur, how  to correct this frustration. I have been using Arial and Verdana, two of very common usage for  Autocad texting.

thank you,

Post a sample DWG file with this problem

Below are the steps that I send to users at work.

Here is how to change the settings for a .pc3 file and also create a new one that retains the changes that you make.

  • In AutoCAD, start the PLOT command
  • Select the plotter. In this case I am using the DWG to PDF.PC3 file.
  • Click properties

Missing Fonts 1.JPG

  • In the Plotter Configuration Editor, click “Custom Properties” (in the upper portion as shown)
  • And then click the “Customize Properites” button (that appears in the lower part of the dialog)

Missing Fonts 2.JPG

  • Check the option next to “Capture All” to include all fonts
  • Then uncheck the box next to “Include Layers” – this bloats some PDFs
    • Optional – uncheck “Open In PDF viewer when done” helps when creating many PDFs at once
  • Click ok when done

Missing Fonts 3.JPG

Back in the Plotter configuration Editor click “Save As” (I ask the users to do this because we have an application that overwrites this .pc3 file...)

Missing Fonts 4.JPG

Click OK to exit.

You may need to restart the PLOT command in order for it to refresh and see the new .PC3 file.

But after that you should be able to plot with all fonts…
