I am not able to get the legs the way thye are supposed to be per AutoCad's "Create Basic 3D Objects" tutorial. The image on the left is from AutoCad's Tutorial, lesson 1, steps 7 through 11, and the image below the left one is what I drew in AutoCad 2011, 3D Modeling per Lesson 1 (steps 7 - 11) of the tutorial. As you can see the left one has the top narrower than the bottom, whereas, the right one has the top wider than the bottom.
It said in the tutorial you have to set OBJECT SNAP to on, if you don't use this option, then you have to specify the diameter (or radius) for the top of the leg before drawing bottom diameter (or radius) and height.
Below is the exact wording of Steps 7 & 8of lesson 2 of Create Basic 3D Objects.
1). 7 At the prompt, move the cursor over one of the smaller circles. The center point of the circle is displayed. Click the center of the circle in the drawing.
What I assumed by step 7 was to move the cursor over one of the smaller circle>click center of the circle in the drawing. I assumed the center of the larger circle was what it was referring to.
2). 8 At the prompt, enter T for top radius and press Enter.
Specify center point of base or (3P/2P/Ttr/Elliptical): t
Specify point on object for first tangent: (AutoCad 2011)
What point or object is it referring to??? Note: could not go any farther.
The author assumed that a user already know how to select center of the top circle and also know how to click on the circumference before proceding with drawing the rest of the leg (Telling a user how to do every tiny steps is kind of insulting)
3d is advance drawing part of autocad.
You can yell at whoever wrote it if you want.
The directions are incomplete/ incorrect, there needs to be one more step between 7 & 8. The default settings for a cone draws a cone the converges all the way to a single point. The instructions fail to mention that in order to achieve the desired result, the user has to specify both a "base" and a "top" radius.
I believe the author wants you to use Osnap (it's was the first thing in the tutorial)
He or she skipped the line that said click on the small top circle after picked center point.

Also, the image in Step 4 clearly shows that Dynamic Input is turned on, so entering a height of -4 would be result in the table leg being drawn upward through the table top if the user picked a point "below" the center of the small circle to specify the top radius, or if the user happened to move their mouse "down" anytime after step #7
The first time I tried it, I did assume that I was supposed to snap to the circumference of the circle, however I picked the quadrant of the smaller circle that's SE of the center, so of course the leg went "up" with a height of -4
