Link to dwg inside of Excel file freezes Acad

If I place a link to a dwg as a hyperlink in an Excel file, AutoCAD freezes.  It opens the drawing, then AutoCAD is completely locked.  I have to close it through task manager.  Has anyoen else experienced this issue?

This has been tested wih multiple drawings and excel file and it happens in all of them. Any help would be appreciated.  I'm using Excel 2010 and AutoCAD 2010.

Hi,

What version of Excel are you using?

If you open the file from AutoCAD do you receive any prompts such as Proxy or pathing errors?

If you double-click one of these files through Windows Explorer, does AutoCAD open the file as expected?

Regards,

Volker

Running Excel 2010. The file opens normally all other times.  I can open it from inside AutoCAD, I can double click on it in Windows.

However, clicking a hyperlink to that file will load the file in AutoCAD, but completely freeze the AutoCAD window.

It kinda sounds like Acad is waiting for something -- are you sure there's not a alert being displayed under the Acad window?  Can you move that window while Acad appears frozen?

You might want to load and run ProcessMonitor from microsoft to track down exactly what is failing when you start acad that way.

This is a closed issue.  i never found the solution, but it only seems to happen when our customization package is loaded.  I've looked through the code and found no reason for the issue to occur.  The workaround we used was just to use the vanilla AutoCAD profile.
