Light XREF colors do not show correctly

Anyone know how to fix this?

I have an XREF that has light colors in it (Ex. 255,255,255 (true white), and some lighter shades of beige, etc.). The XREF'd file in the current drawing shows the color (which should be true white, or shades of light beige, etc.) as either black or shades of grey depending on the fading factor instead of true-white, etc.. I tried setting the XREF Display (Fade Control) to 0 (and even tried different values) but to no avail.

In one specific drawing, when I turned the Arial photo on, and like magic, suddenly everything was the correct color (the xref'd figure with a true white (255,255,255) color actually appeared as true-white, beige was beige, etc).

But in another drawing, with the exact same Aerial in the background, and the exact same XREF, the XRef's colors still turned out wacky even though they had the exact same settings.

Is this a bug? Is there a setting I missed? Why did the colors show ups correctly in ONLY ONE drawing (when the Aerial was turned on), even though it had the exact same settings, aerial photo, and Xref as my other drawings?

CAD Gurus? Autodesk? Anyone?

Any help would be highly appreciate.

Thanks.

works ok here.

are you viewing the XREF in the model or the layout?
if in the layout has that page setup got display plot styles toggled on?

i presume you have not applied any colour overrides to your layers...

It looks the same in either Model or Layout...

Yes the plot style are "on"

I also tried changing the layer colors in the drawing, but still no dice... I'm still baffled why in one of my drawings the colors showed up the way they should, but only after I turned the Aerial image on. Yet it didn't work for the others....

may be e mail the file or part of it as colours are displaying as expected here or create a new file using one of the Autodesk template files and reference it into that and see if the colours display ok. may be you have a setting set in your files which is causing this....but i can not think of any setting

I too am searching for a way to "turn on" the xref lights. they come in dark.
It is a good idea for them to be different from the dwg your working on but I want an option to do that.
Did this start in 2009? I skipped it and went to 2010 from 2008.

Perhaps this may help:

VISRETAIN set to "0" will apply only to current drawing. "1" will apply to all.

If you use XDWGFADECTL you can set the fade control of XREF's............but be sure to check that in LAYISO command you go to "settings" and set it to "on" or "Lock and Fade" rather than to "off".

That also applies if you use LAYLOCKFADECTL in order to use the LAYISO command.

That did it.
Thanks for the quick response.
When I went through options, I did not see the Fade Control box.
I set it to "0". Perfect.
I did set VISRETAIN to 1 so that should do it.
Thanks!

Still didn't work for me....

I toggled the VISRETAIN, Played with the different levels of XDWGFADECTL.. Toggled the LAYISO... still no dice....
Am I missing something?

Could you have brought in your xref into a "frozen" layer?
Is your xref bound?
Is it an xref and not a block?
Does the xref have AEC objects saved in previous version which were not brought in?
Is it a nested xref?
Have you downloaded your VBA (just in case?)
Have you loaded 2010-SP1?

If I think of anything else, I'll reply.

We are experiencing this same problem. It shows up frequently when we use large solid hatches of light beige. These beige colors show up as gray when they are XREF'd.

If you have your page setup to display plot styles you can see the true color of the hatch. But this only works while working in paper space.
