Hi, I'm new (again) to using AutoCAD and am a GIS user. I just wanted to know if there was a way to import an ESRI shapefile (.shp extension) into AutoCAD 2011. This is the only version I have and don't really have any extensions with it. Can I do this or do I need different software?
Thanks for the reply. I have installed the ArcGIS for AutoCAD extension but I do not see where I can bring in a shapefile. I might be able to bring in geodatabase files (it says feature classes) but it has no option for bringing in a shapefile.
I am wondering if my version of AutoCAD allows this sort of thing or not. I was browsing the forums and it seems that AutoCAD Civil 3D and other versions/extensions can do that but maybe not just regular AutoCAD 2011?
Plain AutoCAD won't import Shapefiles, but AutoCAD Map/Civil3D will. I'm not aware of any ESRI plug-in for this.
If you were to consider third party add-ons, take a look at MapWorks Base which will import the contents of ESRI Shapefiles, including the DBF contents as extended data.
Hi we can only import esri shapes in autocad map/autodesk map without any extensions or plug in...You cannot import in any version of autocad...
