I hope the new one is faster, I've been using the web forum for a few years, switching between threads take forever, even after clicking on reply to write this message took over 30 seconds, that's the only beef I have, hope the new one is faster.

Allowing competitors to promote their products is another matter. I wouldn't
allow it if it were my forum either. In fact I don't know of any product
support forums that do. I use the Autodesk forums to interact with other
product users for support. In that context I have not experienced any
censorship even though it could probably be justified.

The censorship isn't limited to competitors hawking
products. It goes way beyond that.

I am not clear on how switching to a web based forum vs. NNTP is going to
lead to any more censorship than we already have, to whatever extent that
is. Can you explain it to me Tony?

I think the people who get censored generally deserve it for being dicks. I
have no problem with that. If you get censored simply because you tout the
other product (which I believe is rare), then I have a problem with it.

Of course the person who touts the competition on a sponsored discussion
group is being a dick. Of course, occasionally the sponsor will
recognize that their product doesn't suit the needs of the person being
responded to, or exceeds their budget so that they will never legally
use the product. So they accept the redirection to a competitor.
Autodesk has been pretty good in that regard.

Did you not see the ArchiCAD hit-and-run spam job
that occurred recently?

It was NNTP without authentication that made that possible.

What's significant about the change is not merely that
it is no longer supporting NNTP, but that it *requires*
login to access the groups, which was never required
with NNTP.
