How do you change/edit command shortcut keys?

How do you change/edit command shortcut keys?  For example, I would like to change the keyboard shortcut key for the command COPY to "C" instead of "CO" and CIRCLE to "CR" instead of "C" because I use the COPY command much more than CIRCLE and I'd like to maximize my drafting efficiency.  In older versions of AutoCAD, you could open the acad pgp file and edit the info using "wordpad"; however, I have not been able to find that same file for this 2011 version.

I've tried the ACAD help feature but its not quite giving me what I want.  Can anyone help with this?

Thank you very much.

My system is:

Gateway AMD Phenom II X4 820 quad-core processor 3 GHz

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit os

ATI Radeon HD 4250 graphics

640 GB hard drive

6 GB DDR3 memory

It's exactly the same thing in R2011: nothing has changed.

Is this more of a "I can't find it on the ribbon" type issue?

RIBBON > MANAGE > EDIT ALIASES with the PGP icon next to it is the button to push.

The the oldest method, typing the following at the command line, still applies too:

(startapp "notepad" (findfile "acad.pgp"))

Remember to run REINIT, select the PGP button and OK to make your changes active. Oe restart AutoCAD.

Post back if your issue was not any of the above.

The acad.pgp file lists the command aliases. To access the acad.pgp, on the Tools menu, click Customize >  Edit Program Parameters (acad.pgp).

I still would advise to leave the existing shortcut aliases alone and pick letters or letter combinations that aren't used, for your custom commands. Otherwise, you'll not only screw things up if someone has to use your setup, but you'll also have troubles when you try to use anyone else's system!...

I hope my info was useful, but if by some odd chance it actually solved your issue, feel free to mark your post as "Accept as Solution". Thanks! :smileyhappy:

For 2014 I go to 'Tools > Customize > Edit Program Parameters

When the text box opens, change shortcut keys to desired text.. Exit out and Save

Make sure to REINIT > Press the PGP button > OK

This will make your new shortcut keys active
