Grip edit after modifying a 3D solid

If I create a 3D solid (Box, for example) and I add a hole through it, the triangular grips are removed from the solid.  Is there a way to edit a 3D solid and keep the grip edits after the fact?

Hold down the CTRL key and click on the edge, but that won't give you corner grips.

That the way it is with autocad.

Your SOLIDHIST variable is 0. If you set it to 1, you can keep the original object history after boolean operation.

You still need to hold CTRL to pick the sub object.

Or you can set sub object selection filter for easier selection. Read about sub object selection filter here.
