from under 900kb to 11 MB in one symbol

Help!... I have a group of drawings that grow in size.  if the original drawing size is 900 kb and if I add even one symbol it grows to 11 to 12 MB.  How do I go about reducing this drawing back to the original size?

the question becomes -- how are you adding the symbol, and where are you getting the symbol from?  Most probably there's 'stuff' in your symbol that is bloating.  could be AEC Objects, dictinaries, DGN leftover cruft.

Hello

Q1) Which AutoCAD have you exactly ?

Q2) Are you receiving DWGs coming from AA / MEP / CIVIL / etc ?

DWG with special AEC objects ...

Did you actually try anything to shrink them? Should we guess you did not? three popular methods include:
PURGE
WBLOCK
DXFOUT, then open teh DXF and SAVEAS to a dwg.

In addition to the other fine responses you've received so far.
