Convert dxf to component assembly

I received the attached dxf file and want to turn it into a component assembly for dynamic modeling. I was hoping to turn it into a dwg in AutoCAD and then importing it into Inventor. When i load the dxf file in AutoCAD, it seems that only the surface mesh is available, and no components are listed. I tried using the "Convert to Solid" tool, but the console output indicates that the "objects cannot be converted".

Is there any way to identify the individual components, or should i have been given another file?

thanks!

That seems to give a thickness to a surface in order to turn it into a solid sheet.

I'm actually just looking to define the seperate components/ (links) of the drawing so that i can impose joint constraints and model the assembly. I'm fairly new to AutoCAD so there may be an obvious solution that i'm overlooking...

See if this tip works: otherwise ou'll need to ask the source for a CAD file with the content you need I suspect, all the DXF contains are 3DFaces (open the DXF in Notepad and read the content for yourself).
