I work for a small architecture firm. We use AutoCAD LT 2011, which has been installed on my system for about 18 months. I finished work last night and saved and shut down normally, but this morning when I got in AutoCAD is suddenly refusing to start. The error message I get is:
"Unable to run AutoCAD LT 2011. This may be due to one of the following reasons:
1) This version of AutoCAD LT was not installed properly. In this case you may wish to reinstall AutoCAD LT
2) You do not have sufficient rights to run AutoCAD LT"
So far, I've tried:
-A total reinstall of AutoCAD. I uninstalled all autodesk products (design review, autocad and the materials library) and manually deleted the autodesk folders in the various appdata folders before reinstalling. Same error. Tried this twice. The second time I made sure to set the install folder to something different and had it do the autocad SP1 updated while installing, but neither worked.
-Uninstalled and reinstalled the.NET framework.
-Rolled windows back to a previous restore point (two days ago).
-Created a new admin account in windows and tried running it under that.
Nothing has worked. My only antivirus is windows security essentials, which I shut off while trying all this. Short of totally nuking the windows install and starting over, I'm sort of at a loss as to how to fix this. Everything else on the computer (outlook, internet, network folders, office, etc) all work perfectly normally. The only thing that isn't working is AutoCAD.
Has anyone run across this before? How did they solve it?
I appreciate the response. I have found several other instances of people having this issue, unfortunately the only offered solutions seem to be "do a clean uninstall and reinstall of AutoCAD" and "reinstall .net", both of which I've tried multiple times to no avail. I've seen no concesus as to what causes the issue either. All I know is it seems to be an AutoCAD/Autodesk specific problem, since all other software on the computer works perfectly fine (including software that uses .net).
Anyone else? I'm at the point where all I can think of is to nuke the entire windows install and start over, which seems drastic to solve an AutoCAD issue, but I simply can't think of anything else to do. :/
Something stuck in the Windows Registry. After uninstall Autocad, go to registry (REGEDIT) and remove anything that has the word Autodesk in it.
If that can not fix it, buy another hard drive or format your HD.
Just as a follow up for anyone with the same issue, after trying everything people recommended with no results, I ended up reformatting and doing a clean install of windows and AutoCAD. A tremendous pain, but it did work.
Hopefully other folks have better luck than I did getting things working without needing the nuclear option.
I fixed this by doing the following;
1. Launch Services (in the Start Search bar or a Run command enter: services.msc, or go to Control Panel > Performance/System and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Services)
2. Locate and stop the Windows Presentation Foundation Font Cache 220.127.116.11 service
3. Delete "FontCache18.104.22.168.dat" from:
4. restart that service
Start up AutoCAD.

I guess the only way will also to wipe out and re-install the machine. ****!... I hope that'll work...
