I have an excel sheet with GPS coordinates of elevation and distance. I want to produce a cross section drawing with these points. Is it possible to link the excel data into AutoCAD without having me draw the cross section myself.
Any input would be helpful.
It can draw PROFILE, not CROSS SECTIONS (Cross section is perpendicular to Profile)
Save excel to text file then use 3dpoly command , copy and paste in the coordinates.
There may be a lisp program that does what you are looking for. Do a search in the lisp forum to see if it exists, this issue has come up before so maybe someone wrote a program for it.
First consider that the data may be Lat/Long which (not being a planar system) will create a very distorted profile if not projected to a system such as state plane.
If you were to consider third party software, the low cost DotSoft MapWorks civil/survey add-on can take your lat/longs from the spreadsheet, project them to state plane, then allow you to automatically connect the points to form profiles/sections.
