AutoCAD crashes on startup 2012-2014

Hi Autodesk Forums!

I have this subject in school where we're supposed to be using AutoCAD for educational use. I had heard that you could get it for free if you are a registered student. I then proceeded to downloading AutoCAD and I went with 2014, however, when I had it installed and ran it, it came up with the following message:

"FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Writing 0x006c Exception at de4efe0bh"

I thought, that maybe it was because my computer couldn't handle AutoCAD '14 since I only have Windows 7.

I went on and downloaded AutoCAD '13, but I still got that message. I even tried with AutoCAD '12 but it still gives me the same message.

I don't know if this is of any use, but my here are my computer specifications:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.2 Ghz
  • nVidia Geforce GT 130m
  • 4 GB DDR2 800MHz ram
  • Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1

I hope someone can help me out as I need to use AutoCAD for the rest of the year.

- Morten

Welcome to the Autodesk Forums!

First of all:

Autodesk Recommended Clean Install Procedure:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?linkID=9240817&id=2887771&siteID=123112

Turn off any running Virus protection you may have for the new install.

(I'm a little fuzzy on this - DEP Protection may be an issue for the install as well. This can be turned On/Off from right clicking the Desktop icon)

Run the program as an Adiministrator for the first time on your System.

Secondly:

Is this where you are downloading the Student Versions?: http://students.autodesk.com/

Interesting that you can get the older Software versions as well. Kudos Autodesk

Thirdly: (May be needed)

.NET Cleanup Utility:

Fourth: since the OP doesn't mention whether the Win7 OS is 32-bit or 64-bit, the installer must match.  If this is 64-bit, 4 GB RAM is a little short, even for educational purposes.  Try to get another 4 GB in there if possible.

Yeah, forgot to mention that.

My system is 64-bit but I won't spend cash on this laptop. Only got one year left of school, so.

And to answer your second question.

Yes, they offer 10 year old versions of AutoCAD. I think it's pretty nice. 🙂
