ATTDEF and spaces

I am editing a block in Plant 3D 2012 to customize the way the equipmnet tag info is displayed. The default attributes (see attached in red) have spaces in logical places. when creating a new attribute (see attached in blue) i can not figure out any way to get a space in the attribute. i do not want to use underscores and if i create an additional attribute or text field to put in front of the attribute is screws up my text alignment.

how in the hell did autocad get the spaces in the attributes! its obviously possible?

Type \U+0020 where you want a space.

Hi,

I'm not sure if I understand your question.

You can use spaces in the Prompt and in the Value. Not in the tag, see the Help file:

Attribute Tag Name

Specifies the attribute tag, which identifies each occurrence of an attribute in the drawing. The tag can contain any characters except spaces or exclamation marks (!). Lowercase letters are automatically changed to uppercase.

What shows in the drawing when the block is inserted is the Value, and you can type spaces in the value.

I hope this helps, but if not please send your drawing and explain in detail what you wish to achieve.

Cheers,

Luciane

apparently you can use spaces in the tag. see attached screen shot, the default entries for the Vessel Tag Info have spaces in the tags. there is a space befor and after the X, seperating the two text items. i want to duplicate this.

I am not sure how this was created.

Is this your file or was it created by someone else?

Which product and version was used?

Was there any third-party application, routine or other custom tool used?

I can send the DWG file to our developers and check what they think about it.

Cheers,

Luciane

I am using AutoCad Plant 3D 2012.

The DWG in question is straight from the program itself and un-edited in any way. this is how it came "out of the box."

I simply clicked on Edit Block (see attached).

According to my colleague that is a Plant 3D specialist, the tags in Plant are very different to those in AutoCAD.

Please post your question in the Plant forum:

Jed, is there a way to COPY the attribute tag and then just edit the parts accordingly while leaving the spaces untouched?

Or, in one of the "good" attributes, highlight the space, Ctrl-C, and then go into the "bad" attribute and Ctrl-V.

no sir. i tried that.

also if you double click on the attribute that has the spaces in it and then just hit ok you get the "null, no spaces" error message?
