Any way to not display details of large array? Autocad 2012

Hello All,

I am having trouble with a relatively large Autocad drawing document. In one corner, I would like to array a bunch of small circles (2 microns in size) in a 100x100 array. Understandably, this slows down the document when zooming. Is there a way to display an array as a blocked-out square as opposed to providing the detail of every circle. In other words, can an array be visually turned into a placeholder that I can view in detail only if I double-click?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best,

I am running version F.51.M.106 for Mac.

I would suggest make a jpg image of 100 x 100 circle, then insert this image in the drawing, scale it to right size, and make it a block. Array this block. You will find some image control variable which turn off image during zoom, pan or alike display changes. When you finalized your drawing and want the circles back, just redifine the block.

Alternatively, just use an empty rectangle block to represent the 100 x 100 square area, but make another block in same size but with all details in. Wherever and whenever you need the details, just insert the second block to the place temporarily.

Thank you. I was hoping that there was a built-in option in Autocad. It seems like something that would be very useful. Thanks for the help. I may try what you suggested.

Are you just looking for HIDEOBJECTS command?

Yes and no. I just found that command earlier. I can hide the arrays while I'm working on them, but it would be nice to have them remain hidden when I reopen the file. For now, however, it will work.

Thanks everyone!
