2004 AutoCAD files opened in AutoCAD 2012 is very large!!

When opening a ACAD 2004 DWG in ACAD 2012 the turns massive. When I import the IGES file into 2012 and export it is even more massive. The size of IGES is so big that ACAD is useless to me and my programing software will not even load. I need help I don't understand why opening up a 2004 in 2012 the if file is so large. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks,

DGN Linetypes perhaps? Post the DWG and let's all have a look at it: use a free site like dropbox or box.net if needed.

Looks like a vertical version of AutoCAD or another program that was exploded to create a model made from large mesh objects. AutoCAD Mechanical 2004?
