The PNG plotter from Autodesk maxes out at 100 DPI. Any suggestion on
other? I can get a better PNG through Acrobat, but it wants to do the
entire page. I then have to go to MS photo editor to crop the image to what
I need.

If you have it available to you I would fist convert the drawing to a .PDF then in acrobat reader save the file as a .JPEG I found that this gives me better results then converting a drawing directly from AutoCAD to a .JPEG with the "Adobe PDF" plotter i was able to crop the section I wanted by using "Window" in the plot area section.

Hope this helps,

That is pretty close to what I am doing except the part about being able to
crop with Acrobat. I will look at that again. My Acrobat wants to use a
prespecified size using print or export. How are you getting the image
cropped with Acrobat?

I used to use JPG or TIF, but according to the Dotsoft article, PNG is
better for line work.
