I haven't used my 2007 for more than a year (it worked the last time i used it) ... I have Windows 7 and I am getting this message  "2007 isn't compatible with this version of Windows 7" ... anybody out there have any idea why it won't work now??? Thanks, I would really appreciate some help.

Hi,

did your AutoCAD 2007 ever run on this Win7 installation? Or does the message "2007 isn't compatible with this version of Windows 7" be showm when you try to install it now?

At which state (exactly) does this message pop-up (screenshot would be great)

2007 has never been Win7 compatible: so you probably forgot to mention something very important in your first post.

Win7 has an XP Compatibility mode, works fine for old software usually, but you also need to take the extra step to "run as administrator".

Since none of this is rocket science, you should try search around in the forum you are posting in and at Microsoft on how to do what I suggested, everyone else with R2007 has done it already with various levels of success.

Thanks Alfred for the quick response ... "This program has known capability issues ... " comes up when I click on the AutoCAD 2007 icon on my desktop. I'm not trying to install AutoCAD 2007, the IT tech at my company installed it in 2008 or so ... I'm not sure it ever worked ... he is no longer working here.

Thanks again,  d

Hi,

>> when I click on the AutoCAD 2007 icon on my desktop

How did you get AutoCAD on your pc without installing it?

Or did you upgrade your WinXP directly to Win7? At least this option is not the best way to get an operating-system running as fine as it could. Check the "XP-compatibility mode", I think that's one chance ... and the last without reinstalling it.

Sorry, - alfred -

We just upgraded to AutoCAD 2012 from 2007.

We're hoping to keep one station open with 2007.

Here are some notes I made from the AutoDESK Discussion Groups: AutoCAD 2007 in “Running AutoCAD 2007 on Window 7”:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-2007/Running-AutoCAD-2007-on-Windows-7/td-p/2716451

raulpa: 07-26-2010, 11:am:

I've been running AutoCAD 2007 on Windows 7 for about 9 months now and everything seems to work as okay. I did, however, had to install the AutoCAD SR2 patch.

SilverbackSC: 07-26-2010, 2:50pm:

i ran ACAD 2007 for months on my Windows 7 machine, and all of a sudden, whenever i click on the "Layer" menu, or type "layer", my ACAD crashes with a fatal error.

pendean: 10-11-2010, 5:21am:

LAYER command is tied to .NET on your PC: your choices are limited to uninstalling and reinstalling ALL .net versions on your PC as well as reinstalling AutoCAD if nothing else shows up here (a good hour or so task).

raulpa: 05-16-2011, 10:51am:

I installed AutoCAD 2007 from the CD and then I did a check for updates. The only update available was SR2. After I did that, everything worked fine. My computer is a 64 bit HP with the i7 processor and 12 GB of ram. The only problem that I have seen is when I generate an animation video of a 3D model. The video plays fine on the computer I used to capture it, but when I try it on an XP computer, the video plays for a few seconds and then it stops. That is the only problem that I have noticed since December 2009.

Working fine so far here with Windows 7 Ultimate.

draftinservicesdotcom: 06-30-2011, 7:40am:

Here's how you do it:

  1. In Windows 7 change your User Account Control (Type UAC in the Search box of the Start menu.) to the lowest setting.
  2. Install AutoCAD.
  3. Download and install the latest AutoCAD 2007 service pack.
  4. On the AutoCAD Desktop icon, right click, go to properties, go to compatibility, check the first box and choose “Windows XP (Service Pack 3)” from the drop down menu.

I applied AutoCAD 2007 Service Pack 2 and the problem solved.

Maybe that could be helpful for you.

rhots: 01-19-2012, 7:34am:

Try reinstalling your profile  (.arg file). A corupt profile will cause layer manager to crash.

SilverbackSC: 01-19-2012, 8:21am:

thanks! that worked
