dimension across viewports of same 3D model in layout view

I have a 3D model
It is long & thin - too long to show clearly in layout view.
I scaled it up & have shown it as 2 viewports with break lines between them.
Looks good but can I dimension across the viewports?
I don't want to manually edit the dimensions - too much scope for error & besides I'm far too lazy to do that.
Using 2009 Mechanical..

If there is I haven't found it. What I do is make a temp viewport of
the whole part, dim it, explode the dims and cut & paste the dim text
into the split viewport dims. Makes it a little more accurate than
manual edit.
