Hi..
Is there any way to change the XREF PATH TYPE (full path type to relative path type) associated with drawings..

< i have been troubled with a huge no: of files received from our client, the problem is i have to change the title block in the paper space which is "NOT FOUND", and the xref path type of all drawings are FULL PATH.. and i cant create a new folder(dont know if this would have worked) to match the xref path in the received files as the drive(M, N, P) on the file doesnot match our drives(x, y,z)..

thank you..

if you want to convert all xrefs in a dwg to relative path try the attached script.
If you want to redifine their path explore "redir" command in express tools.

Try the "Reference Manager" that is installed together with AutoCAD. You find it under your START button (XP) > All Programs > Autodesk > Your AutoCAD

I don't see how you can change the reference type from Full Path to Relative
Path using Reference Manager. Can you explain please?

To make a relative path AutoCAD have to know the relations between the drawing and external references.
The easiest way for you I think, is to put all the external references in the same folder where the main drawings are located. Then AutoCAD is able to find its external references. With “Reference Manager” you can remove the path and then use the "Project Name Search Path" feature that you find under Files in Options to tell AutoCAD where to look for its external references.

If I understand you correctly, you want to specify a path for each project
in the Options/Files/Project Path settings? Would that not be rather
cumbersome to manage Xref's that way? Or are you suggesting he use that
approach just to fix broken paths? In either case, I am not clear how will
change the XREF path setting to relative for any given drawing.

I suggest one of two different ways to solve this problem:

1. Put all your external references together with your main drawings in the same folder. The easy way.

or

2. Make a project in Options>Files>Project Files Search Path and add the necessary folders (where your external references are placed, one or several) under that project. Then you open each drawing, make your project current and then reload your external references. I'm not sure if you have to remove the path from the external references first. If you have to, then "reference Manager" may help you.

In ACAD 2008 I can type in the relative path in the 'Found at' field which shown when you select the xref in 'EXTERNAL REFERENCES' dialog. When you hit enter the path in 'Saved Path' field will change to the relative path you entered and 'Found at' field will change to the full path of the xref if it is found in the relative path.

I found this way after I tried REFERENCE MANAGER which always freeze when I apply changes.
