Does anyone have any ideas/toosl for performaing the same process (e.g.
locking viewports, freeze/thawing layers etc) on multiple viewports. Tks

Take a look at Layout Manager in ToolPac 9.0 from
http://www.dotsoft.com. The dialog looks like this:

If it is exactly the same every time, I would create a button macro.

Here are some routines I use. They were set up for LT, so the part about
the layer states could be replaced by using layer previous. The first
unlocks the viewport. The second sets the viewport layer freeze-thaw. The
third locks the viewport. To use them directly, you must have established
layer state named temp. It does not mater what it is, just that it is there
to delete and reset. We also put all viewports on a layer named viewport.
You will need to edit the second routine for your layer names. Hopefully
you have a layer naming convention that will allow you to use wildcards.

^C^C-Layer;A;d;temp;s;temp;;;;-layer;off;*;n;on;*viewport*;;-vports;lock;off;\;-Layer;A;r;temp;;;
^C^C-layer;set;0;;vplayer;f;Filename*;c;;vplayer;t;filename*;c;;PS;z;a;
^C^C-Layer;A;d;temp;s;temp;;;;-layer;off;*;n;on;*viewport*;;-vports;lock;on;\;-Layer;A;r;temp;;;

One other thought is to copy your layouts and then modify them as necessary.
This only works though if you don't have a lot invested in to your current
layouts.
