is there a way to rotate a 3d object in plan view in a head over heels type direction rather then in a clock type direction?

Hi cad'm,

Yes! First rotate your UCS around the X axis, -90 or +90, then rotate the object and it will STILL rotate around the Z axis which is where the Y axis was before you changed your UCS.

Or switch to the front view and hit the "white" icon that will make the UCS planer to that view, then hit previous view (top view) and rotate away.

I haven't done it for a while, but you can ROTATE3D about any 2 points -
those could be a line you have pre-set up through your thing. And use the
"rule of thumb" for whether it's positive or negative rotation. You can
also ROTATE3D about an Object (like the line)
