drawing file is not valid

hi.. i am trying to open a drawing, but it says that "drawing file is not valid". However, I can see the drawing in the preview window. Any suggestions.

Try recover.
If you have the .bak file try and rename that to a .dwg file and open.

FYI, preview is just an image/snapshot buried in the dwg, it is NOT
and NEVER is/was an indication of what's in the file or the state of
the file.

It means nothing at all the you can see the preview.

If the other suggestion fails, try to INSERT the file into one of
yours. You can also try a partial Open.
You can also try the free autodesk converter to try and change it's
version number and see if that helps.

Is this from a newer version of AutoCAD saving in the 2007/2008 format?

I thought of that also, but he would not be able to see the preview if
the DWG file was a newer version.

I had thought originally he was viewing in explorer. Need to read more

Is there a way to get the information that is in the snapshot view from explorer back?
