AutoCAD Upgrade Cost

Lynn Allen just posted on her BLOG about saving space on the screen (using 2k7) by moving the tabs to the topof the screen. That is enough for me to upgrade.

However, when I went to purchase the upgrade from 2K4 the price is $1795. That is far too much for this single man office. That is 80 hours of work for me; and there is no way I can justify that kind of expenditure.

What can I do?

Are you satisfied with 2004? If so, and you are using only for 2D then
don't upgrade as 2007 has been primarily setup for 3D. You might want to
wait for 2008.

The problem is that AutoDesk has seen fit to charge for each upgrade and to issue an upgrade each year. This is nothing more than the corporate oligarchy at its worst.

The price of upgrading is the same whether you do it every
year, or wait three as you have. Been like that for quite a
while now, and price of doing business if you want to do
this tool: remember, ALL AutoCAD users are paying the same
as you are.

You may not get R2008 if you wait: I suspect R2004, like
R2002 this year, will stop qualifying for the discount a
week or two before R2008 ships, and by then R2008 will cost
you $1795+another version upgrade ($495 I think).

And if you miss the deadline, it will of course cost you
$3400.00 to get a new version.

Or hey, Consider AutoCAD LT for $899 new, $495 upgrade.

If all you want is the ability to shrink to the titlebar. Google MOUSEIMP
PRO. It works with any program including AutoCAD. Use the Autohide feature
to "Roll up" windows into their titlebars.

1700 bucks for 80 Hours?

You may just want to rethink that.

We have to pay for all upgrades; so if I have 2k4 and want 2k7 I have to pay for three years of upgrades. If I wait to upgrade to 2K8 then I will have to pay for 4 years of upgrades; or about $2600; wich is not much less then a new bersion.

AutoCAD LT is not a alternative since there is no facility to have LiISP routines with AutoCAD LT, correct? We have to buy third party softwsare to have theLISP toutines? Open modification of AutoCAD was THE selling point when AutoCAD appeared on the market so many years ago.

Third party add-ons solve your fear of LT limitations, and
it's still a lot cheaper than an AutoCAD upgrade :smileyhappy:
