Auto Save Keeps TURNING OFF!

Has anyone had this problem?

I keep setting my auto save to ON and to 10 minutes and then when I have a
crash, I find auto save had turn off and had not saved anything. This has
happened many times. I don't know how many hours I've lost now over the
course of time.

This sounds like a severe problem. Try the Repair feature on the CD and if
that doesn't work, I would suggest un-installing autocad, cleaning all
references in the registry, rebooting and re-installing autocad. NOTE: do not
use a registry cleaning tool after autocad has been installed as it will clear
out references in the registry to the CommCntr and you will have to
re-install.

Networked version of AutoCAD? (not sure if this pertains to 2005)

Variables are reset when unable to obtain network license

We have built qsave into some of our infrequently used buttons, such as
plot. It is not a substitute for autosave, but may help with cases like
yours.

Autosave cannot be counted on period.

No.

IMO - If you are relying on Autosave, then you have bigger problems than
your "autosave turning off". Get in the habit of running QSAVE, make it
a 1 key command, run it every minute or so. Only once or twice in many
years have I ever even had to look for an Autosave file, much less rely
on one. I can't imagine losing "hours".... That means you are going long
stretchs of time between QSAVE's.

Now to your question - system variables do not change by themselves. See
Tracy's suggestion for one idea. Are you sure you are looking in the
right location for the autosave file? The SAVEFILEPATH sysvar specifies
the location.

Describe your crashes. Just kicked out of AutoCAD with no warning? Or do
you get a dialog that says "AutoCAD cannot continue, do you want to save
your changes...." - I'm not sure in the latter case that the Autosave
file would be retained anyway.

I always rely on my autosave feature. Has helped me on numerous occassions
without any problems.

I would totally disagree with the statement that "system variables do not change by themselves."

I have the same problem with the setting changing every time Autocad crashes or locks up, which is quite frequent compared to earlier versions.

I have reinstalled the program have all the updates and nothing changes. Perhaps it is fixed in r2006 or maybe they'll get it right in r2007. When is r2007 coming out anyway sometime in July?

I know it's expecting a lot but perhaps Autodesk could try fixing the problems with one version before creating a bunch of new problems with another new version.

So you are saying that AutoCAD is programmed to randomly change system variables at certain time intervals? I don't think so.

*Something*, whether it be a lisp program, menu script, or the link between the chair and the keyboard -- is making the change.

Define "the setting". SAVETIME? Try QSAVE more often and the status of SAVETIME becomes meaningless.

Perhaps *what* is fixed? Are you still referring to SAVETIME? See above.

BTW: Past indications would lead most to believe that R2007 will be release in Mar 2006.

Over the years I have developed a habit of using the QSAVE command about
every 60 seconds.....Just do it automatically without thinking....
