Those are Station Numbers, used in the Civil Engineering field. If you don't
know, perhaps you're working in the wrong discipline. On the other hand, if
you're just converting paper drawings to AutoCAD, what's to know? Just show
what's there.

Thanks. I'm an Electrical Engineering student, and I just need to copy it, but I like to know what I'm copying, especially if it can help me keep different drawings on the same scale.

A little cross-discipline experience is a good thing....

As Paul mentioned, it is stationing of an alignment. This is used as a
reference. For example, the centerline aligment for a highway would be
stationed. For simplicity, let's say we start at zero: Sta 0+00. Once can
locate or reference features using the stationing like this:

Catch basin: Station 56+17.32, 32 ft right.

This would tell you to go 5,617.32 feet along the alignment ...then go 32
feet right...perpendicular to the alignment.... to place a catch basin.
