Software registration key

I had worked on Auto Cad version 10 with hardware lock. Now iI am given to understand that key which comes along with the software is a S/w key.
How does it work?
I am interested in purchasing Auto CAD 2002 educational version.
If my PC crashes , will I be able to use the same authorization key next time when i install the software on the same m/c or in a different m/c.

regards

You have to change 3 major things about your system before you will need
a new authorisation code, so installing on a different machine will
qualify as more than 3 things. There is a portable license utility that
allows you to deactivate one installation, transfer it to a floppy and
then this allows you to enable the installation on another machine in
your pool.

Yes, You will be able to take the key and stuff to
another machine.  You just have to make sure to stay legal by making sure
you un-install off the first machine.  If the machine crashes you use the
same info the re-install it.  It is pretty simple once you have the key it
is done.  You just write it down so that you don't lose it and you can use
it over and over again.

Hi,

It may depend in which country you are which type of software lock is used.
I believe that the majority of Educational versions though use the SLM based
system.

If this is the case, when you install the product it will generate a request
code which you can then authorise via the web, e-mail or fax. If certain
conditions arise on the PC, for example AutoCAD crashes, you may find that
the license is broken and it will need to be authorised again.

If you install AutoCAD on another PC you can either use the Portable License
Utility to transfer the license, or reapply for a new authorisation code,
obviously within the constraints of the license agreement.
