Regen taking forever (literally) AGAIN!

It's happening to another drawing:

I've got a drawing that will not regen or regenall while in layout. The
command prompt says "Regenerating layout", but it never finishes. Regen
works in the model tab, but will NOT regenerate the layout, except if I
change tabs. When I switch layouts, it regenerates fine, but the regen
command will NOT work. I'm working on a PIII-650, 256MB ram, Matrox
Graphics Inc. V.4.0.137 with 8MB memory and latest driver, Win NT4.0SP5,
A2kiSP2. Please help. Any ideas are appreciated since nothing seems to
work. Tried audit, recover, exiting/re-entering autocad, rebooting, and
I've run out of ideas.

No TT Fonts, Shademode = 2D wireframe, zoom extents regenerates drawing, but
why oh why won't regen regen???? BTW, the drawing was created in R14.
Could this be the problem???

Dont know if this helps but did you try setting (option-system tab- layout regen
options) to cache model tab and last layout. We found that with muliple tabs we
tend to run out of memory when the default (cache model tab and all layouts) is
checked.

Yeah, that is what it was set to. Looking at the task manager performance
tab, it looks like I've still got about half of my physical memory
available, but the cpu is pinned at 100%.

This has happened to me on rare occasions and I found I had some bad entity
in that tab. Try audit, recover and if that doesn't fix, re-create that
tab.

Thanks alot, Pat. I was recreating the whole drawing, but it looks like
just recreating the tab by copying and pasting everything works. I still
would like to know what is causing this problem. Audit and recover don't
find any errors, but it still won't regen.

Maybe a dumb suggestion...but does it need a purge ?

I'm not sure if that would fix it since I deleted the problem layout, but if
it happens again (and I'm sure it will), I'll be sure to try that. I purged
the drawing, but it didn't seem to have very much to purge (4 blocks, 10
layers).
