From what I can tell,...this is what AutoCAD does
now. I really don't care for this at all.
I think the logic is: "If you saved the
file,..there is no need for an autosave anymore" I do not believe in this
however,..if you crash and your drawing gets corrupted, and you are unable to be
open the file,.you have NOTHING to fall back on (since all your autosaves were
deleted). Sometimes .bak files will save you but not all the time. I lost
an entire drawing that way once,..I had to redraw the whole
thing.
The only somewhat fix that I know is to do the following:
1. Set your autosave to 1 minute. (on slow computers this could be very
time consuming)
2. Go to "TOOLS", "OPTIONS", then click the "OPEN & SAVE" tab,...Look
under FILE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS" make sure that "CREATE BACKUP COPY WITH EACH
SAVE" is checked.
What this does:
It sets it so AutoCAD will autosave after one minute,...then,...after
one more minute it will autosave again,..the first autosave file will be set to
a bak file. So in actuality you will have a backup from 2 minutes ago. As
long as you do not save manually within those two minutes,...you will get a bak
file of your first autosave. Hope that wasn't too confusing.
Just be careful of the amount of bak files you accumulate,...you have to
delete them manually from time to time as they do take up hard drive
space to do this. You may want to set your "TEMPORARY DRAWING FILE
LOCATION" & "AUTOSAVE FILE LOCATION" to its own directory on your c:
drive,....to keep a good eye on these files. I made a directory called
"C:\ACADTEMP\"
If there is a way to fix this autosave delete
problem,...PLEASE,.... let me know.
Hope all this helps! If there is a way to
have autocad not delete autosave files, that would be a much better route to
take,...otherwise this is all I know you could do. I will keep an eye
on this newsgroup post to see if any more options develop.
