polar tracking

i am running autocad 2002 on windows xp home edition. when i turn on polar tracking the cursor "imprints" itself across the screen leaving a trail of cursor marks on the drawing. if i turn off polar tracking, the cursor still leaves imprints of itself on the screen, but they are fewer. any suggestions?

try rebooting your computer and see if that fixes the problem. if not, try updating your video card driver. and if that doesn't help, you may need to get a faster video card.

thanks for the response. i have a 64MB video card so i don't think that is the problem. someone mentioned that cad 2002 is not compatible with xp home edition. could that be true?

Turn the acceleration down in your Display
properties. Or try a different video driver

Misinformation-- it is "Not supported" - which means Autodesk kindly only tested the version of XP the big users need. Thousands of us are on XP home. Download updated video drivers: the problems is in your system. Bob

FYI,  I just recently purchased a Dell
Inspirion 8200 with a ATI Radeon 9000 graphics card (64 meg).  I had a
problem with 'Cursor Stick'.  If I turned off the cards Hardware
Acceleration it was fine, but Dell was able to provide a Driver that fixed the
problem totally (so far) and my hardware accelleration is now set at full.
If you have a laptop, check out the computer manufacturer, if you have a
desktop, ATI will be able to provide a updated driver.

i too have a dell inspiron 8200 (laptop) with an ATI radeon 9000 graphics card. i am new in the PC world, and kind of new at using cad (about two years). it sounds like you had the same problem i am currently experiencing. would you mind sending me more information on how you fixed it? i am not sure where to turn of the hardware acceleration. also, what driver did you install that made it work? and where can i find it?
thanks! i'm hoping this will work.

a question off the topix but related to Windows XP
and AutoCad 2000.

Is it poosible to install AutoCad 2000 on Windows
XP.

I was using AutoCad 2000 on Windows 2000 with no
problem but now that I have upgraded my OS to Windows XP I can't install my
AutoCad 2000 on it.

A responder (dviator) to my other question
12/7/2002 1:31 AM, "Is there AutoCad XP or 2002" told it is
possible.

Where should I look for it.

TIA

Rasoul

The file that Dell was able to send me was called
M9XPA01C.exe (it is over 17 meg).  This file is a installation file that
will install the driver.  Just contact Dell and they will send it to
you.  I suggest them send it because they may have a newer one.  If
you really want, I will email it to you (use at your own risk!).

To access your 'Hardware Acceleration' (at least on
my system)

1. Right click on your Desktop

2. Left click on 'Properties'

3. Left click on the 'Settings' tab

4. Left click on the 'Advanced' button

5. Left click on the 'Troubleshoot'
Tab

6. You should now see the Hardware acceleration
Slider.  Without the updated driver, if I set it to 'None', my cursor stick
was eliminated.  With the updated installed driver, I was able to have it
set to Full (much better!).

That's it.  Hope it helps

I currently have AutoCAD 2002 installed on Windows
XP Professional.  If you have XP Home edition, it is possible that there
can be problems.  Autodesk says that they absolutly do not support autocad
installed on XP Home, but I have heard of many who have it.

There is no AutoCAD XP, just AutoCAD 2002.
Maybe 2002 will give you better results.  I never had the chance to try
2000 on XP Professional.

Good Luck

Yes, mine is XP Home Edition.

By autocad, do you mean even autocad
2002?  If it is right then I have to change to XP
Professional.
