modeling desappearing!

Hi,
I have a model created at AutoCad 2000 and originally it has 4.5 MB. It is composed by a structure (composed by more than 1 part) and a topography (composed by 1 part) and when I do an intersection command between them, all the free space I have in my hard drive is occupated and when the process it done the topography simply disappears! The final file has 1.3MB and I can't purge the topography layer as if there were something there...but I can't see it in different views....the solution I have now is to get the original file and do the intersection between the topography and structure parts, one by one. But I wonder if there's any other way I can do it and a reason for this to happen...can anyone help me?
