How to reset layout origin

Sometimes when opening old drawings, the origin in the paper space layout is
not at the bottom left corner of the paper margin. Is there anyway to
re-set the 0,0,0 origin point to the bottom left corner of the margin? Can
I "snap" onto the dashed margin-box somehow, or must I creat a new layout
and copy my old title block into it? This can be very tedious when working
with lots of old drawings.

Thanks,
Dana M.

Good question. The corner of the printable area margin is 0,0. The margin
depends on the printer/plotter. That's just the way it is. Move your title block
& everything to the 0,0,0 origin.

My problem is that when I move the title block to 0,0, it is NOT at the
lower left corner of the margin. For some reason on some of the older
drawings the corner of the printable area margin is not 0,0. Sometimes, the
0,0 point is way off the page in the gray area of the layout. Only by
creating a new paper space layout can I reset the origin to the corner of
the paper margin.

I don't know, there is a place to set an offset for the origin that you could
check. You know about the BASE command? I never used it in paperspace but in
mspace, BASE moves the 0,0 for xreffing/inserting (probably not). Perhaps you
could post a sample in customer files, it's hard to imagine. Could they have set
the paperspace scale some funny way?

Well, how about this if you want to try it yourself. To simulate my
problem, type the UCS command in the layout, and move the origin away from
the corner of the paper margin. Now, without just using the UNDO command,
try to re-set the origin to the corner of the paper margin. Other that just
zooming in and selecting a place near the corner, I can't figure out how to
reset it. There is no way to snap the origin back onto the margin of the
paper.

Well, then just set the UCS back to World. Does that fix it?

Shoot! I seemed like that would fix it, but I guess my problem is not the
same as just moving the UCS to somewhere else on the drawing. In my problem
drawings, trying to reset the UCS to World does not change anything. The
origin of the World UCS is still not on the corner of the margin. Is there
somewhere I can post a problem drawing for people to take a look at and
experiment with?

Run the PAGESETUP command and in the dialog for origin offset it
should be 0,0 and not something else. The problem is that AutoCAD can
remember what was last used for plotting and this gets carried through
to the next page setup.

window.. then i type 0,0 and i pick something far out.. it then resets the

EUREKA!!!

A million thanks, Jon. I don't know why that would work, but that actually
did it. I had to go REALLY far out for it to reset the plotting origin, but
that took care of it. I don't know how you could figure that one out, but
it should save me alot of time.

Thanks again,

Dana
