How to draw a parabola

Hi;

Is there a short sweet way to draw a true parabola in plain vanilla Autocad
(similar to how you draw a true ellipse)?

Thanks in advance,

Sam Schafer

Exactly. What I'm given are a set of nodes along the parabola, but I have
to actually construct the parabolic curve, and have it match up with other
trades. It's an architectural application, so the smoothness of the curve
is just as important as the node locations.

Fun, hey?

Sam

Then you need to construct it in the same manner in which you expect the guys building it will construct it onsite.

Trace the parabola with a spline snapping to a suitable grid density then use the toLerance option to smooth it off. Just do half then mirror it.
If you list it, it lists the control points. - Kev

...of course, the control points will not aid construction unless the toLerance options is set to zero.

Draw the corresponding cone and slice it (it takes some mathematics to get
the parameters) explode the resulting solid and so you will get a spline
describing your parabola very closely.
