Help with odd intermittent lock-up problem

For quite some time now I have noticed an unusual phenomenon that occurs
with AutoCAD when accessing documents or blocks across the network. This is
consistent across Windows OSs and from ACAD 2000i and 2002. We have a
network, running Win 2K, and my workstation is W2K with ACAD 2002 installed
on my C drive. I work on the C drive, save to the C drive, but our release
directory and block library is on the network.

What happens is that after accessing files stored on the network or
inserting blocks stored on the network, the program begins to exhibit an
intermittent lock-up, lasting about half a second. You can make circles
with your mouse/cursor, and see it stop and start. This is quite annoying
when you are trying to edit. If you close ACAD and reopen it, the problem
stops. I D/L-ed the program File Monitor in the hopes of catching what goes
on when this occurs. What I saw, repeating every time I moved the mouse, is
reproduced below. NOTE: The file referenced in the log below (drawing
042794nc.dwg) was CLOSED when this was happening, I was no longer in the
file. Can anyone explain what is going on and how to stop it?
