Exit drawing = Exit Autocad

Hello fellow users,
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but it's really trying my
patience..........

I have say 4 drawings open in 1 instance of Acad 2002.
I open another drawing up, not the 1 I want. Close this drawing, and
Acad closes down without any prompts to save the 4 previous drawings.
Any unsaved data is lost.

Anyone experienced this?

TIA.

Since it doesn't happen to most of us, how about more details about your
system and how you access files and details in between.

Dean,

Win 2K Pro SP4
HP P4
1 Gig Ram
Nvidia Quadro4 750 XGL
-Acad LT2002
-Inventor6 SP2
-MDT6
21" & 19" dual monitors

Start Acad2002, open drawing, work.
Minimise drawing, open another drawing, work
Close 2nd drawing (do you wish to save changes? Yes/No)
Both drawings close (without prompts to save dwg 1), and Acad exits.
Changes made to dwg 1 after last autosave are lost.

Thanks for your time,

How are you closing the 2nd drawing?

snip

Clicking on the top right hand side "X" close button.
Acad exits whether I choose to save drawing 2 or not

Check the setting of the EXPERT variable on your system. It sounds like
something has set it to not warn you. The help system will tell you
what the default value should be.

Thanks for your suggestion Ian,
Expert variable is set to the default of 0 (show all prompts)
Even if this was the case, closing one drawing should not
exit the program.
Strange enough, it doesn't happen all the time.
I guess I will have to make sure all drawings have been saved before
closing one drawing.

It sounds as if your AutoCAD is crashing without an error message. I've
seen this before, there's just a problem with the drawing(s).

Try to fix the bad drawing(s)...the one(s) that cause(s) AutoCAD to abruptly
quit when you close. Remove any unnecessary objects, purge all extraneous
items, etc. If this doesn't work, copy/paste the objects you need (don't
select "all") into a brand new drawing.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Steve,

I think I will just copy / paste what I need into a new drawing and be done
with it.

I'm off down the pub now (18-00 hours).

Best wishes,
