DUPLICATE IMAGES IN 1 VIEWPORT

I am having a very strange problem with a particular client's drawing
files.
The problem occurs in both r14 and r2002.

Specifically, the building is drawn in model space and shown in
paperspace through a viewport. When you enter paperspace, or access the
layout mode in model or paperspace, 2 building images are superimposed,
at different scale factors. I can't erase lines in one image without
affecting the other image. I also can't get rid of the second image, or
change it's scale.

Has anyone else seen this problem? What can I do to make the problem go
away?

Thanks in advance for your help

Sounds like you may have two viewports superimposed. Thaw or turn on
the layer the viewports are on and erase one of them.
