Different layers in different viewports

I'm quite new to all this, having had to pick it up as I go along, so sorry if this is basic:

I have drawn a 3D model, and I have set up several viewports in one layout, and I would like to show different parts of the model in each viewport. Is it possible to turn selected layers on or off in a particular viewport without affecting the display in the other viewports as well?

Thanks for your assistance

One can freeze and thaw by viewport (check out help on VPLAYER command).
Color and linetype of the layers cannot be controlled independantly (these
changes WILL affect the display in the other viewport).

Use the Layer Manager drop down dialog.

Set one of the viewports current, then start the
layer manager, look to the far right for the Current column(stretch the dialog
out if you don't see that column), pick the sun symbol to change that layer to
frozen.  It will freeze that layer in the current viewport and not in the
others.
