deleting block names?

Hi all, silly question but I'm stuck. How do I delete block names from my insert list. When I try to purge a block the names do not appear in the purge selection list.
I had inserted a drawing when I should of xref it. I have detached the drawing but the block names are still there. If anyone knows what I'm talking about send an answer my way. tanx.

ps - I'm using acad2ki.

When you use the purge command it will ask what to purge? type b for blocks, then it asks if you want to list or type. do the type. then just type the name of the block you wish to purge... if it is referenced then it won't be purged
it definatly needs to be erased first.

Best solution is to use the FILTER command to select the
block. Type FILTER then in the drop-down list select Block Name then in the
value editbox select the block name. Next hit Add to List button, and finally
hit apply. At the command prompt type A for all entities. The FILTER will grab
only the blocks. Next start the ERASE command and when prompted again type P for
Previous selection set. Now the block can be purged (for the most part...there
are some other circumstances when this will not be true).

I have unfrozen and unlocked all layers. I have also detached any existing xrefs. Then I applied the filter command and it filters everything out and does not find the name I entered. Am I doing something wrong?? When I use the insert command the names are still showing up in my insert command. They are not just names, they actually create a block when I insert a block. Even when I use -purge command, select blocks then names it doesn't recognize the block name. help!!

type list then select everything in the drawing: then search through it and see if you see the block name.

another thing to try for fun, try copy clippping the whole drawing into another drawing. then see if it's in the list.

Do you have Express Tools? Use the Drawing Database Viewer to search around
to see if the block is maybe inside another block. In this case the FILTER
command won't select it. If it is then you know which block you need to
explode. A common situation is it is inside an anonymous block created when
you use the copyclip/pasteclip commands.

It probably got inserted on a frozen layer or out of scale a million
miles off in the corner. Try thawing & turning on all layers & zooming
extents & select LAST. Or use the filter command to select the block by
name & delete it.
