Defpoint Layer

We put our viewports on defpoints layer and sometimes we are unable to select the actual viewport in paper space. We can enter the viewport from paper space and move around in it and zoom. However, we cannot delete the viewport, lock or modify the viewport because we can't select it. The defpoint layer is on, thawed, and unlocked. Any ideas? Thanks.

If the "0" layer is off or frozen you cannot select objects on the defpoints
layer, but you can see them because the defpoints layer is on or thawed.
Don't know why, don't care.
Might i suggest creating a layer called "Viewports" and setting it to "No
Plot" instead of using the defpoints layer.

That's my suggestion as well. I also pick an obnoxious color for it so that
I know what it is (but that's your choice). Using defpoints layer is just
too unpredictable - actually it's very predictable, but few people in my
office understand it which is why I don't use it.

Hmmmm....
Make sure Layer 0 is also on.
Layer 0 and the defpoints layer are "married" so to speak.

Hope this helps.

Just in case anyone else does a search and comes across this thread sometime in the future like me:

I had the same problem, and the solutions in this forum didn't work until I set layer 0 to be the current layer, then I was able to select the viewport.

Before I tried that, I had all of my layers on and thawed and unlocked, but some other layer was current, and no matter how many times I selected everything, there were no viewports in the selection set.

So it seems to me that the solution would be to turn on, thaw, unlock, and make current layer 0.

Layer 0 does not have to be current, but it does need to be on. It sounds like you had it off, and making it current turned it on.

In paper space, use properties dialog box, Use "Select Objects" and type all, for select all. Then in the pull down, select "viewport" Then under "Misc" select Display locked to NO. Then you should be able to delete it.

Fixed our issue of the day:
User had Layer 0 frozen and could not select her Viewports. Only after unfreezing Layer 0 (and purging) would it work. Thanks.

Thanks for the post herbolsheimerc.

I had the exact same problem where layer 0 was unfrozen and turned on, but I still could not select the viewports in paperspace until I made layer 0 the current layer.
