Changing servers and x-refs

We are merging offices and will be changing servers. Is there an easy way of saving the x-ref paths of 6000+ drawings and replacing them with the new filename paths. If not at least it will keep me busy for a few weeks!

I have a month to find out

What is your Xref path name standard?

My company has a product called X-Filer (
href="http://cadfx.com/xfiler">http://cadfx.com/xfiler
) you may want to
evaluate.

It's primary purpose is for large transmittals and
archiving, but we do have some customers who use it for remapping their
xrefs.  It does not touch your original files, but gives you an opportunity
for a destination drive and directory.  It will copy your "base" drawings
or sheet files to the new location and change the internals to point to the new
drive and path for xrefs and images.  It can also deal with xrefs and
images relatively.  Currently, it does not copy over non-CAD related files
like Word documents, but does handle attached images.  In any case, check
it out and see if it meets your needs.

BTW, it works with AutoCAD 2000-2004.

Best regards,

As long as the drive name is the same, you should have no problems.

But if your XREFs are being loaded off of a server i.e. \\SERVER123\\projects, you would need a utility or to do the repathing manually which might take you days or weeks. The utility that I have used in the past was nice. it is called XREPATH and you can do batch repathing.

Link to XREPATH: http://www.intelcad.com/pages/xrepath/

Good luck.

If you're on Subscription, you can download
Autodesk's Reference Manager, which will do what you want without too much
trouble.

The server that we will be using has a different name to the one we use at the moment, (LSA will be the new server, LSB is the existing). The actual drive name will be the same but after that the file structure will be updated so that the two systems match.

Thanks for the info already provided, I will pass it up the line to those with actual responsibilities.
