can xref's be grayed out

good evening,

Maybe this is asked before but I did not find
any reference

Is there a possibility to gray out an xref so I can
use it as an underlying reference to position elements in the current
drawing?

Thanks

Nic

Change all your xref layer colors to grey in the parent drawing (leave layer
in actual xref drawing alone).

and a simple button macro will do it for you:

^C^C-layer;color;(color #);*|*;;

Under Options, xref display has fade scroll control bar.

The option listed above is the variable XDWGFADECTL I know it exists in 2011 but I'm not sure what version it was first in but possibly around 2006

How can you use xref fade control for only 1 viewport in the drawing?
