Possible to have a fixed distance to target with camera?

I'm trying to rotate a target cam around an object. It is part of a bigger animation. so the use of a spline would be no option.

Is there a way to retain a fixed distance between the camera and the cameras target?

Create a Dummy. Align it (pivot-to-pivot probably) to the Object. Select and Link the Camera to the Dummy. Animate the rotation of the Dummy and the Camera will rotate along with it, at a fixed distance.
If the Object is moving (or itself rotating) and you want the Camera to mimic that movement, Select and Link the Dummy to the Object.

Thanks Steve!

It's more of a 'workaround' but I guess the only option.

No, it is not a workaround. That is the accepted method for rotating an object around a point which is not that object's pivot point. It allows for that object to spin on its own axes separately from, and in addition to, its rotation around the point, which is virtually impossible any other way.
