Extracting fluid volume models from assemblies - Help!

Hello everyone,

I've been asked to extract a suitable model from an exisitng complex assembly for CFD modelling. Essentially this mean I need to extract the abstract of the solid model, i.e. the fluid volume / wetted perimeters. The geometry is extremely complex and the assemblies are massive. I have been through them and stripped out any components, seals and fastners that have nothing to do with fluid but I am looking for an easy way to model the internal volumes.

What I had tried was to import the stripped out assemblies as a derived part, sketch a shape marginally larger than the fluid volume and use the intersect extrusion/ revolution tool to generate the shape I wanted. However the shape that was produced was the overlap between the marginally larger shape and the internal bore, i.e the opposite to what I want. There must be a way to do this, does anyone know how?
