We are currently considering purchasing Alias Design 2012 since we can import/export Catia format(CATpart, CATproduct).
However some of us will stick with Rhino, so some Rhino made models will have to be sent to Alias Design for translating into CATIA format.
I wonder if there is any loss of surface information if Rhino made model is sent to CATIA through Alias Design.
(Rhino (step or iges) --> Alias Design 2012 (CATpart) --> CATIA)
Thanks.

Multiple data transfer may not be the best idea. There is nothing like 100% translation. You might be better off with a rhino plugin for Catia export .. like the one listed at http://www.datakit.com/cad-convertors/rhino-4-to-catia-v5-3d/27-2-0.html
Alias is a much more than a translator. Integrated skecting tools, rendering and animation are some of the features not available in Rhino. It also allows you to create class A surfaces without any additional plugins. I am sure that once you start using Alias, you would appreciate the advantages.
If you are interested in Alias as a design tool there is a plugin for Alias, which will import rhino files. more info at http://www.digital-sculptors.com
