Hi Everyone,
I don't post very often but here is a bug that annoys me for several years (hence several Alias version - 2014 at least):
When sculpting a surface using the transform CV tool, I can do everything keeping the history on but sliding CV's. If I do so, instead of following the hull lines, the CV moves at some random position, usually far away, making a mess precisely because history is on. It behaves normally only if I "suspend rebuilds" which makes my work more complicated.
Does anyone experience the same thing?
Is there a chance to have fixed soon?
Thanks
David

Helllo @david
unfortunately I am not aware of this issue and I also cannot find anything within our knowledge base or developers portal.
Therefore I have two topics:
1.: Can you give me a samplescene and maybe a screenshot or Screencast that explains how to reproduce the issue. This would be very helpful for the development as well.
2.: Can you do a quick test and rename the folder "UserPrefs2017" into "UserPrefs2017_old" and restart Alias.
The folder can be found here :
(for Win):
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Alias\
(for Mac):
finder> library> preferences> autodesk> alias>
It would be interesting, if the issue can be reproduced with the fresh user preferences.
Awaiting your reply.
Regards,
Hello @david
I just wanted to ask, if you already had the time to do some tests on your side?
Maybe you can create a Screencast, in order to show the issue.
I am playing around with the CV Slide tool on a surface with an Align history enabled.
As far as I can see, the behavior seems to be expected:
Best Regards,
Hello Florian,
Sorry for the late reply, I'm pretty busy those days.
Attached is a screencast.
The context is a bit different than the one you show on your screencast as the cv I move is belonging to a "dead" surface (just "sculpted") but on which history for other object is on (squares, curves projection, etc)
I will look at resetting my settings but I can't now.
Thanks
Best
David
Hello Florian,
Yes, you are right, it occurs under specific circumstances which I have identified: it is caused by the multiblend attached to the surface.
The attached file shows the issue.
Again, using "projected" with "transform cv" let me do something similar but not as accurate as slide.
Let me know if and when we can expect the issue to be sorted.
Thanks
David
PS: apparently I can't load a .wire file on the Autodesk community forum, I had to zip it
Hello @Florian.Coenen,
Did you have a chance to look at the file I sent yesterday?
Do you have the same problem I have when sliding cv's?
Any idea for solving it?
I noticed it occurred under other circumstances, however, I trust that solving the problem for the multi blend would be the first step.
Awaiting for your reply,
Thanks.
David
Hello @david
I have had a look into your file and did a Slide CV, but could not reproduce the issue here on my side.
See my Screencast here: http://autode.sk/2j3HJ7b
Am I doing something different then you? Maybe I have overseen something?
Otherwise, I could imagine that the user prefs on your side are causing the issue.
Have you already tried to reset Alias by renaming the user prefs folder?
Regards,
Hello @Florian.Coenen,
No, you are not missing anything, I did what you said (reset settings) and as a matter of fact, the problem is not here anymore. Thanks!
Now, is there a way to quickly get my settings back without making the bug to come back?
Thanks
David
Hello @david
good to hear that the prefs reset has resolved the issue.
In order to reset your prefs, I would first export them and then import the single parts of the preference set step by step into the fresh preferences.
With that workflow, you can test which part of the prefs are causing the issue.

Hello @Florian.Coenen,
I made a bet and luckily it was the right one:
I had "during transform" checked in "performance options" of my original settings, turning it off sorted the problem out.
Thanks again for your assistance,
Best,
David
I don't know if I should create a new topic for this or not, but I've been plagued by this issue for a while, and none of the workarounds in this thread helped me:
Hi @eobet,
The issue you are showing is different than the one I was describing at the time.
It's hard to see with the surfaces you are showing but it looks more like de sides of your surface are "aligned project" onto some hidden surfaces and alias is trying to maintain the continuity as you are moving the cv by moving the ones around, I might be mistaking though.
In my case, it's the actual cv I was moving which was "jumping" very far away, this bug has been fixed for a while now (alias 2016 or 2017).
Good luck
David
can i ask what screenrecording software u guys are using?, its great it shows mouse clicks and keyboard presses
