In the drawing select the checker plate elements, then delete them using delete key. Elements disappear and a series of grey boxes appear, goto ribbon-labels and dimensions tab- select update detail button at the left side of the tab, select the detail or grey box and drawing will update and show frame below. The element delete is only turned off in the view, it is still present in the model.
To turn back on use the restore erased parts check box under the advance view properties.

This method can be used to remove unwanted elements from any view or section created in AS drawings.

I can echo Johns method, we have used it many times before.

You could also use view DS with selected parts. Select all the parts, then shift to deselect the parts not required.
