Markup in Viewer

Markup in Viewer

The only reason to upload a Revit model the current version of A360 is to view it, since central files can not be hosted here.  There's even less reason to do so given the extremely limited nature of the current viewer.

When you upload a revit model to A360 the integrated viewer allows you to look at both the model in 3d as well as the sheets included in the model.  Both of these are nice addon features but ultimately the viewer has little use in it's current iteration.  Allowing users to mark-up/comment on specific items on the sheets (and permanently tying a comment to the user that made it) on the otherhand would be incredibly useful.

Further, Revit integration for comments, similar to Autodesk Design Review, would massively improve the usability of the entire A360 concpet.  Outside users (clients) could login, open the viewer, and add comments that production staff working in Revit could automatically see and react to.

We're working hard to get commenting and markup into the product as soon as possible. We agree that its critical.

Absolutely necessary.  Markups are an integral part of the review process.

Will the Markup tools match those available in such products as Bluebeam?

Has there been any progress on this? Commenting features at least to the level available in Design Review 2013 would be great absolutely necessary.

Hi Anthony,

Thanks for checking back.  The teams have been gathering information from people like you to make the design to add markup to A360.  We do have some basic markup already in A360 Mobile for both Android and iOS, you may want to check that out if you have not already done so.    We are working on the WEB Side as well, but it's not ready yet.  We should have some markup options available soon though.

Thanks again for checking back with us and hope this helps.

While the current a360 site has some useful features it's a long way from Buzzsaw and Autodesk Design Review.

It's been said before and I'll put this forth once more. a360 shall meet or match how the current integration of Buzzsaw project file management and Autodesk Design Review are performed. Ability to open DWF markups in Revit or AutoCAD platforms are among the most useful features for large homebuilder and developers to review and comment back design iterations among the design team. Design teams need to maintain ways to track changes though design develpment and construction documentation.

The UI for Buzzsaw might be dated and mobile apps are sexy. But users are still at thier desks at a daily basis. Hence support for both mobile and desktop shall be equal.

The a360 3D design viewing may well be great for prototyping and 3D printing. However, it's important though that users maintain the ability to review, markup, send redlines back, check them off then send and forth.

I posted this on another idea station request but wanted to make sure it was seen so I copied it here as well.

We've been using Design Review for markups on DWFs but we have corruption issues when multiple people have the file open and are trying to add markups at the same time. I was hoping that I could upload to A360 so that the markups could be completed on the cloud.

  • Allowing multiple people to access at the same time would help eliminate duplicate markups of the same error on a sheet by different reviewers because they could see that the other reviewer had already marked that issue. The current workflow is to either have separate files for each reviewer or to have one reviewer finish before the next can begin.
  • Allowing cloud review and markup could give the person making the corrections accessibility to the markups while they are being made. That means review and corrections can be completed concurrently which would help all of us meet deadlines faster.
  • Allowing cloud review and markup could also give the person making corrections the ability to ask questions of the reviewer during the review instead of after the review is complete. Again, this helps us get to the deliverable product faster and more efficiently.

While A360 works great for some tasks such as marking up a drawing while in the field, it's lacking key features required for reviewing a DWF so we have to consider other options, including products not sold by Autodesk. Since we've already seen how useful Design Review is currently, we need those same or better review/markup features on A360 as well for true multi-user review and collaboration on markups.
