.cui is read-only, why?!?

I Load my partial menu with MENULOAD. Then go to CUI command, and there it's
flagged as read-only. Everything displays and works, but I can't make any
changes. Other partial menus loaded are not read-only. Not Enterprise (there
is none). All files are local, not read-only. What could cause this, and how
to fix? (R2008)

Did your IT guru lock down certain areas of your hard drive or set you as a less than a "power user"?
If yes to either one, have him (or her) undo all these changes and find another IT guru.

[our group policy lockdown disabled my system restore and our new IT cannot figure out how to undo this mess]

Nope - no IT guy, just me: Administrator, CEO, Janitor, and everything else.

FWIW: Solved. At some point I had used the same menu in R2009 and added a
ribbon. Since there is no ribbon in R2008, I'm guessing AutoCAD makes it
read-only when opened in R2008 so the ribbon won't get bonked. Made my changes
in R2009 no problem.
