Poly line / area / dtext

Hey guys/gals

I am trying to create a macro or lispertine, not sure which one I will have to go with, that will let me draw a closed poly line and once I close it I want it to gather the area of that just created polyline and plug the area into a dtext...

Can anyone help guide me in this? I am struggling here. Also like I said I don't know if it can be a macro, or if it needs to be a lispertine. Which ever it has to be can I make the command start with a quick key?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Oh, by the way I am using AutoCAD 2010

It can be done using lisp fairly easy, for someone familiar with autolisp. Here is the second half of what you need, which is the code to create a dynamic field label for the polyline so that if and when the polyline changes, the label will update:

Post back if you need some more help.

I have loaded the lispertine and it works. Now I have to mess with my field settings because I can not get the fields to update. I do understand the updatefield and demandload but they still won't update. I had just started with a new firm and their setting are not up to speed. Any help with that as well would be greatly appreciated.

Also if there is anyway I can get the begining part of this, as in to draw a poly line and then pause and have the command that you referenced start. That would be greatly appreciated.

See picture - did you try this.

Or put a regen command at the end of the lisp.

Check out this free app with open code that will allow you to select a pline you drew and place the area in a block with attributes using a Field:
